Argentine Tennis Player Leonardo Aboian Suspended for Nearly Seven Years

Argentine tennis has been shaken by the confirmed sanction by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) against Leonardo Aboian. The player was suspended for six years and nine months after admitting to multiple violations of the Anti-Corruption Program. The 27-year-old athlete admitted to 30 rule violations, including fixing eight of his own matches (in singles and doubles) played between 2018 and 2025 on ITF and Challenger circuit tournaments. He also admitted to facilitating betting, receiving payments to not compete at the highest level, and not reporting corrupt approaches. Aboian had been provisionally suspended since September 2025 and is now disqualified until June 18, 2032. The sanction practically marks the end of his professional career. His best ranking was 453rd in singles and 229th in doubles. During this period, he will not be able to play, train, or attend tournaments organized by entities affiliated with the ITIA, including the ATP. He will also have to pay a fine of $40,000, although $25,000 were suspended. His last official match was at the Challenger de Villa María, where he lost to Facundo Bagnis.
